The book keeps everything easily digestible, so its very easy to read and understand...but there aren't many details. For example, a very important question you may have is "how many batteries will i need to go X miles in my car?" This question goes unanswered in this book. The chapter on batteries is literally 2.3 pages and only talks about 2 types of batteries and compares their cost, weight and maintenance. Hell, the chapter on body paint and body is longer! Why is a chapter on paint and body even included??? that stuff is no different on an EV than any other car! There are no formulas to help you figure out how many batteries you will need, or the voltage you want to achieve for your goals. One of the most basic components on an EV is treated like an afterthought. Other chapters provide more info, like the chapter on choosing a motor, since it lays out the most common electric motor for EV conversions.In the end, if you have no clue on what goes into the planning of an EV conversion, this book will be a good read. Its like "EV conversions for dummies." As my first EV conversion book, I really enjoyed it, and learned a lot from it. However, going back thru it again to help with my actual conversion, the book us fairly useless.

The book has good content but is messy. Its the first time that I buy a book without page numbers.
Excellent book ... written in common man terms and very understandable ... highly recommend
The book is a little old ....need specific guide lines of step by step build of one car instead of two... needs up dating but in the end it showed me that a electric motor with an manual is possible

Good book! Makes the conversion look easy!
While I would have liked to have a book on converting VW vans, I purchased this book for its step by step treatment of the EV conversion process. Ken Watkins takes one step by step in the conversion of a few of the more likely American models that can be converted. He discusses the reason for his choice of the vehicles and while he acknowledges that one can use a kit that includes the conversion adapter plate, he explains in detail how one might make said plate yourself. That alone was worth the cost of the book.
